Description

We are seeking an experienced DBA to join a small Infrastructure team providing database administration and technical support within a pensions software business unit in WTW. The primary function is to perform DBA tasks on MS SQL and Oracle databases to ensure they run smoothly and efficiently. The role is varied and the successful candidate will be expected to work within the team to support other elements of the infrastructure as required.

The Role

  • Database Installation and Configuration:
    • Install and configure database software according to organizational needs.
    • Set up database parameters, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Database Maintenance:
    • Perform regular database maintenance tasks, such as backups, restores, and index rebuilds.
    • Monitor database performance and tune configurations as necessary.
  • Data Security and Access Control:
    • Implement and enforce security measures to protect sensitive data.
    • Manage user access to databases, granting permissions as needed.
    • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Troubleshooting and Performance Optimization:
    • Identify and resolve database issues, such as performance bottlenecks or data corruption.
    • Optimize SQL queries and database configurations for improved performance.
    • Provide technical support to users and developers.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Document database configurations, processes, and procedures.
    • Generate reports on database performance, usage, and security.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate with developers, system administrators, and other technical staff to ensure smooth integration of database systems.
    • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to understand database requirements and provide updates on database status and performance.
  • Integrate with the wider team functions:
    • Collaborate with the team to support system integration with an internally developed application stack.
    • Collaborate with the team to support secure file processes and workflow automation.
Qualifications

The Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator or in a similar role.
  • Experience working with Unix systems (RedHat/AIX).
  • Experience working with Windows Servers.
  • Proficiency in database management systems (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL Server).
  • Strong understanding of database design, normalization, and optimization.
  • Knowledge of data security practices and principles.
  • Experience with database backup and recovery procedures.
  • Familiarity with SQL and database programming languages.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Certification in database administration is a plus.
  • Flexibility and willingness to assist with other technical responsibilities.
