Description

The Laundry Staff is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, orderliness, and proper care of all garments, linens, and other washable items used by the Sisters and the convent. Staff plays an important role in upholding the dignity and hygiene of the religious community by handling all laundry-related tasks with care, efficiency, and respect. The role requires discretion, dedication, and alignment with the values of humility and service practiced by SFIC.

 

  • Wash, rinse, and dry clothing, bed linens, religious habits, towels, and other laundry items using manual or machine methods.
  • Sort laundry according to color, fabric type, and washing instructions.
  • Iron and press clothes, including delicate religious garments, ensuring they are neat and properly presented.
  • Mend minor damages to garments such as loose buttons or small tears, if requested or required.
  • Fold, organize, and distribute clean laundry to appropriate storage areas or to the Sisters’ rooms as instructed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the laundry area, including cleaning machines, surfaces, and laundry baskets.
  • Monitor laundry supplies (e.g., detergents, fabric softeners) and inform the House Superior when replenishment is needed.
  • Handle laundry equipment safely and report any maintenance issues or damages promptly.
  • Follow proper procedures for washing delicate and sacred garments with reverence and care.
  • Maintain confidentiality and show respect for the privacy and religious life of the Sisters.
  • Assist in other light household duties when needed and as instructed by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Education: At least high school/senior high school or equivalent.
  • Experience: Prior experience in laundry work, especially in institutions (e.g., convents, hospitals, or households), is preferred.
  • Skills & Competencies:
  • Knowledge of proper washing, drying, ironing, and fabric care techniques.
  • Ability to operate laundry machines and handle basic maintenance.
  • Attention to detail, cleanliness, and garment care.
  • Responsible, trustworthy, and capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Respectful, discreet, and professional in handling personal or religious items.
  • Physically fit and able to stand, lift, or move laundry loads.
  • Willingness to work in a religious environment with sensitivity to its values and way of life.
