Description

  1. Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies, procedures, and protocols specific to cargo handling operations such as toolbox meetings/talks to minimize the risk of accidents, injuries, and occupational hazards.
  2. Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of cargo handling facilities, equipment, and processes to identify potential hazards, unsafe practices, and areas for improvement.
  3. Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and contributing factors and develop corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
  4. Maintain accurate records and documentation of safety-related activities, including inspection reports, incident reports, training records, and safety data sheets.
  5. Monitor compliance with relevant safety regulations and standards, including Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) regulations, International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code, and related regulations.
  6. Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related inquiries, concerns, and reporting, and provide timely and effective responses to ensure the resolution of issues.
  7. Collaborate with management, supervisors, and employees to promote a safety-conscious culture and provide ongoing training and education on safety procedures, equipment operation, and emergency response protocols.
  8. Handle the safe storage and distribution of medicines for company employees’ use, maintain accurate inventory records and comply with health and safety regulations.
  9. Stay informed about emerging trends, best practices, and regulatory changes in safety management and cargo handling operations and recommend updates to safety policies and procedures as needed. 
  10. Adhere to company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance and safety.


The duties will be those normally undertaken and carried out within the scope of this position, including any additional tasks as may be required from time to time, for which the incumbent has experience and qualifications.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Safety Officer or in a similar role within the cargo handling industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of cargo handling safety regulations and best practices.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills to effectively guide and inform staff on safety matters.
  • Ability to conduct thorough safety inspections and risk assessments with keen attention to detail.
  • Proficient in using safety management systems and reporting tools.
  • Certifications in safety management or related fields (e.g.,BOSH, OSHA) are highly desirable.
  • Graduate of bachelor's degree or any four-year course.
  • At least 3 years of experience in cargo handling.
