Description

The Engineering Department Cost Control Engineer is responsible for monitoring and controlling project costs to ensure they are within budget and aligned with project objectives. This role involves a combination of technical skills, financial acumen, and strong analytical abilities.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.

Related Work Experience: Proven experience in cost estimation, budgeting, and financial analysis within an engineering or project-based environment

Knowledge (knowledgeable in the following) :

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, terminology, and project management concepts.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and project management software.
  • Proficiency in cost control software and tools.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and principles.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and analysis tools.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Cost Tracking:

  • Monitor actual costs against the project budget.
  • Track expenditures on labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Identify variances between budgeted and actual costs.

Variance Analysis:

  • Analyze cost variances to determine root causes.
  • Develop corrective action plans to mitigate cost overruns.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings.

Change Order Management:

  • Review and approve change orders.
  • Assess the impact of change orders on project costs and schedule.
  • Negotiate with contractors and suppliers to minimize cost increases.

Progress Reporting:

  • Prepare regular progress reports, including cost and schedule updates.
  • Communicate project status to stakeholders.

Forecasting:

  • Forecast future costs based on historical data and current trends.
  • Identify potential cost risks and develop mitigation strategies.

Cost Control Tools and Techniques:

  • Utilize cost control software and tools to track and analyze project costs.
  • Employ techniques such as earned value analysis and critical path method (CPM).

Collaboration with Project Team:

  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to ensure cost-effective decisions.
